Already well established, the lease can hold 528 baskets on 38 oyster racks (100 metres x 4 lines) and is situated on a 36-hectare bank with the large unspoilt bay offering plenty of tidal flow and quality nutrients. As the new operator you’ll be able to grow either 40mm “on grower oysters” or 6mm spat to be grown to 40mm, which can then be sold as “on growers” or grown out further to sales sized oysters. The demand worldwide for Pacific Oysters is growing rapidly.
The Shark Cartilage Business
The Oyster lease is also ideally placed to prepare raw Shark Cartilage for cleansing before being dried, analysed and then packaged for human consumption. Part of the cleaning process involves hanging the raw shark cartilage in bags in the water before the product is dried in racks on shore and cleansed in the surf at a separate location.
Both operations feature massive growth potential and will quickly reward a new owner with results. The back beaches of Streaky Bay are ideal for cleaning the cartilage utilising a unique surf tumbling system pioneered by the business. The local climate is ideal for drying the product to limit contamination before being bagged and shipped to Sydney for analysing, bottling and labelling. The unique production technique was perfected over a decade of trialling by the founder of the business and meets all the tight health guidelines set by the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
